Ukir Prestasi, Terakhir Prodi Komunikasi Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang Raih Sertifikasi Internasional AUN QA

MALANG – Program Studi (Prodi) Ilmu Komunikasi Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) baru saja meraih sertifikasi dari ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA). Ini merupakan satu-satunya Prodi Komunikasi kampus swasta di Indonesia yang memperoleh pengakuan secara internasional ini.

“Capaian kali ini merupakan yang terbaru. Sebelumnya, Prodi kami telah tiga kali berturut-turut memperoleh Akreditasi A dari Badan Akreditasi Nasional Perguruan Tinggi (BAN PT). Selain itu mahasiswanya juga terus mengukir prestasi di tingkat nasional maupun internasional,” kata, Kaprodi Komunikasi Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang,  M Himawan Sutanto, beberapa waktu lalu (20/5/2021).

Himawan yang menjabat Ketua Umum Asosiasi Program Studi Ilmu Komunikasi Perguruan Tinggi Muhammadiyah dan Aisyiyah (APIK PTMA) ini meneruskan, diraihnya sertifikasi AUN QA melalui proses yang panjang. Bagi Komunikasi UMM, sebenanrya semua persyaratan sudah dipenuhi, dan tinggal secara administratifnya saja. Pengumpulan berkas dan dokumen sebagai bukti pelaksanaan reformasi kurilulum, tracking studi pada para alumni dan pemangku kepentingan, kerja sama dengan dunia industri dan dunia usaha, serta kesesuaian antara visi misi dengan implmentasi pembelajaran.

“Keunggulan kami salah satunya terletak di praktikum mahasiswa,” tambah Himawan, yang juga Sekjen Asosiasi Program Studi Komunikasi Seluruh Indonesia (ASPIKOM) ini.

Diuraikan oleh Himawan, beberapa keunggulan-keunggulan prodi yang dipimpinnya. Selain dikenal luas oleh kalangan pengguna lulusan dan para alumninya, Prodi Komunikasi Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang terakreditasi A tiga kali berturut-turut sekaligus sebagai prodi Komunikasi terbaik versi Majalah Mix Marketing. Ditambah dengan prestasi-prestasi yang diukir mahasiswanya baik tingkat nasiona maupun internasional, Komunikasi UMM menjadi kebanggaan universitas dan kampus-kampus Muhammadiyah seluruh Indonesia.

Sekprodi Komunikasi Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang Widiya Yutanti menambahkan, kampus ini juga memelopori praktikum mahasiswa dengan real client dari kalangan industri maupun dunia bisnis jauh hari sebelum digaungkan konsep Kampus Merdeka. Mahasiswa dituntut untuk mampu memperoleh pengakuan dari stakeholder sungguhan secara langsung melalui praktikum.

“Kalau praktikum film ya harus film sungguhan dan masuk di festival bergengsi. Kalau bikin berita juga harus viral dan memiliki nilai jurnalisme yang tinggi. Kalau jadi konsultan PR ya harus dengan klien sungguhan, memberi solusi atau mengembangkan usaha yang menjadi mitranya,” tegas Widiya Yutanti.

Dengan fasilitas lab yang mutakhir dan lengkap, mahasiswa bisa melakukannya dengan baik. Salah satu karya kolaboratif dan kreatif mahasiswa Komunikasi UMM adalah Kampung Warna Warni Jodipan yang fenomenal. Karya ini menjadi viral lantaran mahasiswa mampu menyulap kampung kumuh menjadi destinasi wisata yang tak hanya bernilai ekonomis tapi juga pelestarian lingkungan dan budaya masyarakat yang berubah drastis menjadi lebih bersih dan tertib.

Menurut Widiya Yutanti, kreativitas mahasiswa tak hanya diwadahi di praktikum di laboratorium tetapi juga klub-klub peminatan. Ada klup jurnalisme, public relations (PR), dan sinematografi. Melalui wadah-wadah inilah mahasiswa dibina untuk berkarya dan mengikuti berbagai kompetisi. Tak heran pembinaan ini memperoleh capaian prestasi tingkat nasional maupun internasional.

“Berkat prestasi ini lulusan kamu banyak yang direkrut oleh perusahaan atau Lembaga penyelenggara kompetisi,” imbuh Widiya.

Keunggulan lainnya, lanjut Himawan, adanya pilihan tugas akhir yang bervariasi. Sekarang tidak ada alasan telat lulus gara-gara skripsi. Karena selain skripsi hasil penelitian, tugas akhir juga bisa dikonversi dari prestasi mahasiswa dan karya kreatif. Ada delapan pilihan untuk Tugas Akhir ini yang semuanya bisa dipilih sesuai minat dan kesibukan mahasiswa tingkat akhir.

“Banyak mahasiswa kami yang sudah bekerja di profesi yang strategis sebelum lulus. Mereka bisa membuat riset atau karya kreatif berdasarkan aktivitas pekerjaannya itu untuk diuji,” kata Himawan.

Selain itu, Komunikasi UMM dibina dosen senior maupun dosen muda yang professional. Mereka lulusan kampus ternama dalam dan luar negeri. Selain itu para dosen juga memiliki pengalaman pertukaran dosen di Turki, Polandia, Norwegia,  dan Amerika Serikat.

Rektor Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang  Dr Fauzan bersyukur dengan bertambahnya prodi-prodi yang memperoleh sertifikasi internasional sesuai harapannya untuk menjadikan UMM semakin mendunia. Selain Komunikasi, prodi di UMM yang juga memperoleh AUN QA adalah Pendidikan Biologi, Manajemen, Peternakan dan Psikologi. Sementara prodi Teknik Industri memperoleh sertifikasi internasional dari Indonesian Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (IABEE).

“Tidak ada pilihan lain, kita harus melangkah lebih tinggi dan jauh lagi agar rekognisi internasional ini semakin memperkuat tradisi akademik dan kinerja UMM dalam menjawab tantangan kekinian,” tegas rektor. (***)
