Industri Hasil Produk Tembakau Lainnya (HPTL) Manfaatkan Limbah Tembakau

JAKARTA – Pemanfaatan limbah tembakau berupa sisa daun dan batang diyakini akan memaksimalkan hasil pertanian tembakau dalam negeri. Tidak hanya itu, pemanfaatan limbah tembakau tersebut juga tidak menimbulkan persaingan antara rokok dan industri hasil produk tembakau lainnya (HPTL), sehingga pemenuhan kebutuhan bahan bakunya dapat berjalan beriringan.

“Bahan bakunya berasal dari sisa daun tembakau, atau batang sisa dari proses perajangan tembakau untuk pasokan pabrik rokok, sehingga industri HPTL  tidak mengganggu pasokan pabrik rokok,” kata Manajer Tabacaroma Frans Sigid, Selasa (17/08/2021).

Seperti diketahui, Tabacaroma merupakan salah satu perusahaan lokal yang memproduksi nikotin cair dengan memanfaatkan limbah tembakau. Pemanfaatan tersebut menjadi bagian dari inovasi yang dilakukan sejak 2019.

Frans meneruskan, ide memanfaatkan bahan baku lokal tersebut didasari bahwa Indonesia merupakan salah satu penghasil tembakau terbesar di dunia, dengan produksi pada kisaran 150.000 ton per tahun. Pemanfaatan limbah itu menunjukkan peluang industri HPTL bisa berkembang secara berkelanjutan dan memberikan dampak positif bagi petani.

Hanya saja, lanjut Frans, saat ini masih terdapat tantangan dalam menggunakan limbah tembakau sebagai bahan baku nikotin cair. Terutama mengenai yield yang dihasilkan.

“Teknologi ekstraksi nikotin ini cukup kompleks, tidak asal diekstrak. Teknologi kunci kami, adalah bagaimana bisa mengisolasi nikotin yang jumlahnya kecil agar yield yang dihasilkan 0,3-0,5 per ton material,” katanya.

Frans berharap, pemanfaatan bahan baku lokal tersebut bisa dilakukan secara masif oleh pelaku usaha HPTL lain, agar teknologinya bisa dikembangkan bersama dan ekosistemnya berjalan dengan baik.(****)
